Grade Level: First Lesson: Students will work in pairs to illustrate, write and solve addition word problems up to 20. They will take a picture of their work and upload it to the Little Bird Tales App using IPads. They will record a narration of their addition problem to go with their addition word problem. Students will watch the class video of addition problems to share and learn from each other.
Some of my students have completed this project. Here is their work:
Common Core Standards Addressed In This Lesson: 1.0A.1 Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
1.NBT.1 Count to 120, starting at any number less than 120. In this range, read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral.
1.NBT.4 Add within 100, including adding a two-digit number and a one-digit number, and adding a two-digit number and a multiple of 10 using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used. Understand that in adding two-digit numbers, one add tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose a ten.
1.W.6 With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of tools to produce and publish writing, and to interact and collaborate with others. NETS Covered In This Lesson
